RF cavity is a core component of 5G communication and microwave communication equipment. The flatness, perpendicularity, and inner cavity roughness directly affect signal transmission performance. When selecting CNC machining factories, many procurement companies often encounter issues such as batch deformation of parts, fluctuations in sealing groove dimensions, and difficulty in removing burrs from the inner cavity.
1. Material stress is the primary challenge in cavity machining
Communication cavities mostly use 6061 aluminum alloy, which has inherent internal stress from raw material extrusion and forging. If the machining process arrangement is unreasonable and there is insufficient aging to release stress after rough machining, deformation is highly likely to occur after finishing, leading to assembly gaps exceeding tolerance. A mature machining solution should adopt a step-by-step process of 'rough machining → aging for stress relief → semi-finishing → finishing'.
2. For complex inner cavity structures, five-axis machining is preferred
Multi-channel filters and duplexers have many grooves and staggered holes in their internal cavities. Three-axis machining requires multiple flipping and clamping operations, and multiple positioning introduces cumulative errors. Using five-axis simultaneous machining allows for the completion of multi-feature machining in a single clamping, significantly improving hole coaxiality and dimensional consistency.
3. Coordination of surface treatment and machining processes
Anodizing causes micron-level dimensional changes. For cavities with strict tolerance requirements, a machining allowance for oxidation needs to be reserved during the machining stage. High-quality machining factories will adjust machining dimensions in advance based on the customer's surface treatment plan to avoid dimensional non-conformance after oxidation.
